Chiltern Young Archeologist's Club
The Chiltern Branch of the Young Archaeologists Club is a monthly club open to all young people between 8 and 16 who have an interest in archaeology and history. Membership of the branch costs £18 p.a. and £5 per session although occasional special events might cost a bit more.
Meetings of the branch which is the junior wing of The Council for British Archaeology, are usually held on the last Saturday of each month at the Chalfont St Peter Community Centre between 10 am and 12 noon.
We aim to make the sessions fun and a typical format when we're at the community centre will include the youngsters doing some form of hands on activities related to the topic we're talking about. As an example the youngsters have done some experimental archaeology making a hypocaust model to show how the Roman central heating worked in practice, and also baked bread to an ancient recipe using traditional recipes.
Most sessions are held at the community centre but we do go on occasional trips and do try to get the children to join in with at least one hands on dig a year. We are always keen to have sessions based on out members particular interests.
This is a great opportunity to meet other young people with similar interests and sessions are always a great deal of fun. Several of our members have gone on to study Archaeology and History at University. Members come from all over Bucks and West London
